Erica Sakurazawa: The Rules of Love (rank 3.5)

Publisher: Tokyopop
Volumes 1/1 (Complete), OOP but not hard to find
Josei
Genre: Romance

Summary: Taku is a total player who has a bunch of girls on speed dial. He doesn’t have a job and constantly borrows money from the women he sleeps with. One day he gets kicked out of his apartment over not paying rent and an incident with one of his lovers. He meets Chizu, a young woman who’s never been in love. Chizu falls heads over heels for him and lets him move in the next day. This is the story of their bittersweet summer of love.

Review: According to the narration and the back cover this is supposed to be a bittersweet romance story about a short, passionate love. But honestly I felt like it's more accurate to say it was about a naive girl who gets her heart broken by a guy who cared about her a little bit more than his other flings but not enough to actually completely change his ways. It wasn't a bad story, but more bitter than sweet to be sure.

Recommended: For Josei, it’s alright, but it’s basically a story about a heartbreak. Compared to the other Erica Sakurazawa works, I’d say this is nothing particularly special.

Age Rating: Older Teen: this story has consensual sex in it.

Other Works from this mangaka: (from most to least popular):
  • Nothing But Loving You (Shoujo/Josei)
  • Between the Sheets (Yuri/Josei)
  • Angel Nest (Josei)
  • Angel (Josei)
  • Aromatic Bitters (Josei)
