Publisher: Tokyopop (Books- OOP but not hard to find), Viz (Digital- Available)
Volumes: 2/2 (Complete)
Shoujo
Genre: Supernatural, Romance, Fantasy

Summary: Hiromu goes looking for one of his classmates, only to find out no one knows who he’s talking about, including the other club members, his teacher, and even his girlfriend. He soon meets a strange guy who calls him “Glorious Lily” and says his name is Vermillion. He tells him that both of them aren’t even human- they’re immortal beings known as Destiny Thieves, and they eat human souls and their existence, erasing the fact they ever existed.

He also tells him that Glorious' real love is another Destiny Thief named Valeriana, a beautiful woman who has been sitting in a chair, unresponsive like a doll, for a long time. As “Hiromu” starts to remember his past life, he becomes increasingly uneasy with living forever at the expense of humans. Can he make peace with his life as a Destiny Thief and immortality? And will Valeriana ever wake up?

Review: Overall, this was a very good, solid story, and also my favorite one from this mangaka. It’s touching and thoughtful, and the romance was sweet and tragic. This story also kind of feels like a Vampire story, as major themes in the story also center around the loneliness of immortality and the guilt of taking lives to continue your own. Only in some ways the Destiny Thieves are even worse than Vampires, because they don’t just kill- they erase everything a person ever did by eating them. Finally it ends fine, but has an unexpectedly happy ending which could have used more explanation. But it was alright.

Recommended: If you want to read a tragic supernatural romance that has an unexpectedly happy ending, then this was a good read.

Age Rating: PG

Other works from this Mangaka in English: (from most to least popular): Haru Hana, Flower of a Deep Sleep, The Mermaid Prince
