Shounen
Genre: Horror, Romance, Fighting

Summary: Taku Kamishiro has always loved his childhood friend, Mika Hanazono. But she’s the most popular girl in school, and he always chickens out when trying to tell her how he feels about her. One day he gets infected with a strange virus that makes you want to kill the one you love the most. Suddenly Hanazono’s suitors are trying to kill her left and right, while he frantically tries to use his newfound abilities to save her life. But most of all, can he protect her from himself?

Review: Dividing this series into 4 main Arcs:

Volumes 1-3: Kamishiro and Hanazono together Arc

Volumes 4-6: Introducing two Rival Organizations
Volumes 7-10 c32: The Cultists Arc
Volumes 10 c33-end: Reunion and ending

First Arc v1-3: Kamishiro and Hanazono together was easily the best part of the story. It’s a unique blend of horror and romance, and it was very entertaining. Also very violent and twisted like you would expect.

Second Arc v4-6: Hanazono goes into hiding. Kamishiro joins an organization that seeks to help and quarantine the infected while looking for her. Meanwhile, they fight a ruthless rival organization that sells the infected as test subjects, or kills them. It was alright, pretty standard Shounen fare aside from the fact they get their power ups from visualizing killing the ones they love most.

Third Arc v7-10 c32 The Cultists appear. This army of clones makes no sense and they’re so comically evil they even have a human sized wood chipper. I would really recommend skipping this Arc. It was so boring that reading became a chore.

Ending Arc v10 c33 to end: The main story-line with Hanazono finally continues.

All in all, while this series wasn’t that bad, it was disappointing to start off so strong and then just lose steam slowly until the ending picks it up again. The villains also just started to degrade in quality and originality. But the ending was overall fairly solid. Although they left it open for a sequel. And in fact, there is a sequel currently running, but hasn’t been licensed in English yet.

Recommended: The best story-line would be reading volumes 1-3 and then skipping straight to volume 10 c33. Or at the very least I’d say it’s worth it to skip the Cultists’ Arc. Unless you are interested in any of the extended cast members backstories, which are… alright. Nothing too special.

Not Recommended: If you have only read a moderate amount of Shounen fighting manga, then the rival organizations arc is decent. If you have read a lot of Shounen manga already or are just looking for something new and unique, then I’d just skip this one. Maybe just read the beginning and ending or skip this one altogether.

Age Rating: Older Teen: quite a lot of graphic violence and graphic imagined murders
