Alicia’s Diet Quest (rank 3.5)

Publisher: Kodansha
Volumes: 3/3 (Complete), digital eBooks only
Shounen
Genre: RPG World, Dieting, Comedy, Ecchi

Summary: Ryan, Alicia and Sarah are on an RPG quest to defeat the demon lord, when Ryan notices Alicia sneaking off at night. He discovers that Alicia is trying to lose weight due to the many feasts from villagers they’ve saved, plus apparently potions are high in calories. That being said, it soon becomes apparent Alicia is her own worst enemy. And Sarah has the opposite problem, she’s lost so much weight, she can barely lift her sword. Can they ever defeat the demon king like this?

Review: Volume one was kind of moderately entertaining, but then the mangaka more or less runs out of jokes and just starts reusing variations on the same jokes over and over. By the time I got to the end, I was especially tired of the whole “Alicia is fat and has no self control” jokes that just made me weary of the whole thing. There was a funny bit about diet magic, but this would have been way better as a one volume series.

Not Recommended: Volume one was decent, so you could always read it and then skip to the end. That being said, this manga is nothing particularly interesting.

Age Rating: PG13 for some mild ecchi content
